TOEFL Preparation

ACADEMIC SUCCESS

What’s special about NCA’s iBT TOEFL CLASS?

Focus on High Scores

NCA’s iBT-TOEFL class prepares students to achieve between 80 and 100 points on the iBT test. Most colleges require approximately 80 points, while most universities require between 90 and 100 points. Our graduates typically score in this range and some have achieved up to 107 points.

Innovative Teaching Techniques

Our students are shown how to improve their performance on the reading, listening, speaking and writing sections. What makes our program special is that the test tips are comprehensive (students learn how to respond, step by step, to each task on the test) and precise. In addition, our students learn innovative strategies to help them overcome weaknesses on the more difficult questions in the reading, listening, speaking and writing sections.

Emphasis on Overall Linguistic Skill

In all parts of NCA’s iBT program, students are encouraged to use correct pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Students are expected to complete approximately two hours of homework per day. In addition, students are expected to hand in one essay per day; the essays are rigorously marked and errors are explained in detail. This intensive preparation helps students to improve their overall fluency in English and become so comfortable and accurate in using English that they perform well under the stress of test conditions.

The Instructor Profile

Gerard Paulsen has taught TOEFL for over fifteen years. He has a doctorate on educational theory and practice from Oxford University. His particular area of expertise lies in teaching both the general logical and cognitive skills required for high performance on university-level exams and the specific set of communicative skills examined on tests such as the TOEFL or the IELTS.

Each section was designed with the student's enjoyment in mind, an entertaining class that works on helping you to overcome your shyness when speaking English one-on-one or in large groups.

There are multi-skills courses available for intermediate to advanced students who want to expand their critical thinking and English knowledge in order to communicate more effectively in business, social and academic settings. Training includes intensive listening and presentation exercises, in combination with active learning methods. Student participation plays a big role. Students will be participating in group activities and presentations, role-plays, simulations, research projects, paired work and discussions in order to build competency.

TOEIC Intensive Course

The TOEIC Program is designed to improve students’ TOEIC scores quickly and efficiently.

-Listening Section

You CAN'T catch the sound if you can't pronounce it yourself! You CAN'T understand if the speaker talks faster than you!

We improve pronunciation and speaking speed through the active-learning method such as Shadowing in order to strengthen listening ability. (Shadowing saves you a third of the time compared to regular listening exercises.)
In addition, various tricky questions in this section are thoroughly explained by our Canadian professional.

-Grammar Section

This section is the easiest part to improve scores in a short period of time.
Our Japanese grammar expert gives students detailed explanations in Japanese so that students can learn grammar efficiently and logically.
Even if students don't comprehend the meanings of sentences in the test, they can easily find ways of approaching the answers themselves in terms of grammar rules they learn with us. In addition, this popular course pays close attention to the "nuance" of daily English conversation as well as the essential grammar rules for TOEIC.

-Reading Section

The most important thing for TOEIC is "Speed Reading."

Not able to comprehend the contents? Soon forgetting the story as you read it further? Hard to decipher long sentences? Through this course, these common problems in "Speed Reading" are easily solved, so students' ability to speed read and memorize are reinforced by daily practice. In general, students notice the results in two weeks, which makes them enjoy learning!

-Introduction of data, statistics, tips and hints based on previous TOEIC tests.

We have collected and analyzed past TOEIC tests in order to develop short cuts for students to maximize their time during tests.

This information is quite useful for students!
